Farrah's Letterman Loopiness
June 10, 1997
Days after appearing dazed and confused on the Late Show With
David Letterman, Farrah Fawcett now says she was just
"pretending." Farrah appeared on Friday's show to plug her new
pay-per-view television special and Playboy
pictorial, but from the moment she walked out, her mind seemed to be
elsewhere. Letterman, perhaps sensing Farrah wasn't too solid on her
feet, helped the former Charlie's Angel star to her seat.
During the course of her seventeen-minute segment, Farrah
squirmed in her chair and frequently lost her train of thought. In
the middle of telling a story, Farrah became entranced by the fake
skyline behind Letterman's desk. "I really thought I was looking out
the window," she said. Farrah denies that she was under the
influence during her appearance. "People have read what I'm going
through," she tells the New York Daily News, referring to her
recent breakup with Ryan O'Neal and charges that she stole thousands
of dollars of another woman's clothes. "I think the perception is,
'Farrah must be on pills or alcohol,' and not that I'm trying to be
funny." Farrah says her space cadet behavior was all an act. "We
were pretending," she says. "I really am shy. . . . I'm sorry
if people misinterpreted my giddiness over being relieved that this
project is over. I am personally happy with the way [the interview]
went." Well, she did manage to get off one rim shot. Farrah was
describing her hobby of body painting, and Letterman asked her if
she did it in the nude. Nope, said Farrah, "I have on paint."
